Science Tests Years 2 to 6 – Complete Pack with Question Level Analysis
There is no national science test for most year groups, so it can be hard to know how secure children really are. This pack gives you a proper end-of-year science test for each year from Year 2 to Year 6, written for the national curriculum in England and in the style of the KS2 science sampling tests – with mark schemes and analysis ready to use.
For each year group
- The test – a PDF in three short parts (biology, chemistry and physics; Year 2: living things, materials and seasons), which can be sat together or on separate days. Working scientifically is built into the questions: tables, fair tests, graphs and conclusions.
- The mark scheme – every answer on one A4 sheet for quick marking, then the full scheme with answers to accept and reject, the curriculum reference and a ‘Next time’ teaching tip for every question.
- The Question Level Analysis (QLA) – an Excel workbook: type each child’s marks and it shows every question, topic and working scientifically skill, what to reteach first, who to group, and a one-page report for every child. It comes blank and with example data.
The five tests
- Year 2 – 30 minutes, 25 marks: living things and their habitats, plants, animals including humans, everyday materials and seasonal changes (with key ideas from Year 1).
- Year 3 – 40 minutes, 30 marks: plants, animals including humans, rocks, light, and forces and magnets.
- Year 4 – 45 minutes, 40 marks: living things and their habitats, animals including humans, states of matter, sound and electricity.
- Year 5 – 45 minutes, 40 marks: living things and their habitats, animals including humans, properties and changes of materials, Earth and space, and forces.
- Year 6 – 50 minutes, 40 marks: living things and their habitats, animals including humans, evolution and inheritance, light and electricity, plus key ideas from Years 3 to 5.
