Frequently asked questions

Are the SATs papers on Primary Tools free?

Yes. Every past paper, mark scheme and phonics check on the site is free to download and print. They are the official materials published by the Standards and Testing Agency. Some of our analysis tools and revision resources are paid, and free samples are available for those.

When are the 2027 KS2 SATs?

Monday 10 to Thursday 13 May 2027. Grammar, punctuation and spelling is on Monday, reading on Tuesday, maths Papers 1 and 2 on Wednesday and maths Paper 3 on Thursday.

Are KS1 SATs still happening?

KS1 SATs are no longer statutory, but the official tests are still published each year and many schools use them in May of Year 2.

When is the 2027 phonics screening check?

The week of Monday 14 June 2027. The 2026 pass mark was 31 out of 40, the first change since 2012.

What is question level analysis (QLA)?

QLA means looking at how pupils did on each individual question rather than just their total score. Our QLA workbooks do this automatically from your marks, so teachers can see which topics need reteaching and which pupils need extra support.
